What Is A Process?

There are various ways that the word “process” can be used, as listed for example on the relevant Wikipedia disambiguation page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Process_(disambiguation)

When I use this word as a category in this blog, it will be in one of the following, closely related, senses (from http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/process):

  • A series of events to produce a result
  • A set of procedures used to produce a product
  • A path or succession of states, through which a system passes.

For example, when creating and selling an information product, we go through the following process:

Research —> Write —> Publish —> Market

Of course, there are many sub-processes within each of these main “building blocks”.

Now that I have pointed this out, how many processes can you see around you? How can you use this understanding to help you in your business?
